Darjeeling police has taken up an initiative to organize a mini marathon on January 12, 2014, said Darjeeling police superintendent Kunal Agarwal at a press conference held at Siliguri Circuit House in Siliguri. Agarwal described the marathon as a ‘peace-rally’ to boost peaceful relation among the masses.
Agarwal said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had suggested the district police to organize such events to help in the establishment of peace, harmony and unity between the people of hills and plains.
He said the marathon will be the first of its kind to be hosted in Darjeeling. The SP said male and female participants belonging to the age group of 18-45 years can participate in the 13 km long race which will be flagged off from Ghum at 9 am and will conclude at Chowrasta in Darjeeling.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hand over prize and trophies to the champions in a ceremony on January 22, added Agarwal.(EOI)
