Kalimpong,Pradip Lohagun: Following the announcement that the GJM
chief Bimal Gurung will be reinstated to the top post of GTA, a verbal
war has kicked off in the political scenario of the hills. Gurung’s
decision to sit on the chair of GTA chief might have brought some
political favour for his party from the state government but it has also
invited severe criticisms from the oppositions.
Reacting to the announcement, ABGL and
Hill TMC leaders alleged Gurung’s decision has blemished the Gorkha
community. ABGL secretary Pratap Khati accused, “Power hungry GJM chief
Gurung has major hand in League leader Madan Tamang’s assassination. He
is not at all serious on the issue of separate state; he is a leader
greedy for chair.” He also alleged Gurung of leading a fake agitation in
the name of Gorkhaland but the agitation and strikes only disrupted the
normal lives of the people along with creating disorder in the economy
of the hills.
Asserting that the people received
nothing apart from betrayal from the GJM, Khati urged the people to
support learned and educated leadership. He also rubbished the GJM’s
announcement of holding three tiered panchayat elections in the hills
saying no panchayat elections can be conducted in the ambit of an
unconstitutional administrative set up like GTA.
ABGL secretary said, “The DGHC is named
in the 73rd Constitutional Amendment section 243M. Hence no elections
can be conducted with an unconstitutional set up.
This is also mentioned in the 74th Act
of GTA agreement.” Appealing the public not to believe GJM’s claims of
conducting three tiered panchayat elections he claimed the GTA can’t
even conduct one tiered panchayat elections here.
Similarly Hill TMC youth wing district
president Chewang Bhutia said the people must not trust Bimal Gurung
again since he has again chose to head the GTA. He added without the
public support even the GTA chief is worthless.
