Sikkim Winter Carnival 2013 starts
Gangtok 22 Dec 2013: Three days long Winter Carnival was declared open by Shrinivas Patil the Governor of Sikkim here at M.G Marg.
The winter carnival organized by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the other Departments aims at boosting the tourism sector in the State thereby attracting influx of tourist in Sikkim which was declared as the best place to visit in the year 2014 by Lonely Planet.
The winter carnival has been organized at three major venue with specialized attraction at  Kanchendzonga Shopping Complex, Titanic Park and Ridge Park (White Hall Garden)  mainly to tap the spending potential of the visitors and make them have a great time.
The governor of Sikkim earlier inaugurated butter sculpture and photo exhibition at White Memorial Hall followed by inauguration of Handlooms and Handicraft at Zero Point and of carnival parade at MG Marg.
Later the Governor and the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling also visited the stalls of ethnic cuisine at Kanchendzonga Shoping complex.
The tourism department has organised various adventurous events like mountain biking, paragliding which will be declared open tomorrow. Besides, Culture Department has lined up series of cultural programmes, ethnic fashion show at M. G Marg.
The carnival also targets to woo the tourist through exhibition and sale of local handicrafts, cuisine, floriculture products, photo exhibitions and exhibition of Butter Sculpture at various locations   to ensure greater tourist inflow in all regions and increase the overnight stay period which will lead to more revenue and economic activities in the state.(EOIC)
