Gangtok, Dec. 12: Sikkim chief
minister Pawan Chamling today announced the regularisation of the jobs
of 4,300 casual workers who have been serving for more than 15 years in
different government departments in the state.
“Today, I announce
the regularisation of all those casual workers who have rendered their
selfless service to the state government for more than 15 years,” said
Chamling during the celebration of the Government Formation Day at Manan
Kendra in Gangtok.
According to a
source, the job regularisation will be to those workers who have been
appointed on (or before) 31st January 1998. Their salaries would be
given as per the government rules stipulated for their designated post.
Pema Doma Bhutia,
the president of All Sikkim Muster Roll and Work Charged Association,
said there are around 4,300 casual employees who fall in the category of
those working for 15 years or more. These workers are mostly peons,
office runners, drivers and lower division clerks. Once the employee is
regularised, he/she would get all the facilities such as dearness
allowance, travel allowance, medical and other leave.
P.D. Rai, the
spokesperson of the Sikkim Democratic Front, said: “This is one of the
initiatives of good governance. The employees who have given so much of
their service to the government, deserve regularisation.”
