chief executive Bimal Gurung today laid the foundation stone for a fire
station near Mirik lake. He said the GTA is focused on developing Mirik
as a premium tourism destination and has set aside Rs27 crore for
renovation works.
Gurung also appealed to everyone to
assist concerned GTA departments in this initiative. The GTA has
allocated Rs3.21 crore for the fire station of which Rs1.61 crore will
be utilised in the first phase.
The GTA will also take initiatives to
renovate the lake by overseeing cleaning, sewerage repairing and
beautifying tourist spots in the vicinity. A conference hall will be
built holding meetings of the GTA and the GJM, informed Gurung.
He pledged to properly utilise the funds allocated by the Centre in the next three and a half years.
“The GTA will work towards
beautification of Mirik as doing so will generate employment in the
region,” said the GTA chief, adding he has surveyed the region and taken
note of the people’s grievances.(EOIC)
