Sikkim’s para-glider to represent India in Nepal
Gangtok,27 Feb: Mr. Arjun Kr. Rai, aged 34 who hails from Chakhung in West Sikkim is one of the participants from Indian team who is representing India in the ongoing 2nd Nepal Open Cup 2014 XC (Cross Country) Paragliding Competition, which is scheduled to take place from 26th February to 6th of March 2014 at Pokhara, Nepal.
It is a FAI (Federation of Aeronautic International) Category II competition where pilots from all over the world are participating. It is a 7 days long competition where the participant will have to cover the given distance and complete the task in a given time. They will be judged on the basis of the points collected during their task.
The said event is being jointly organized by one of the most reputed organization, Nepal Air Sports Association (NAA) who is headed by the President Mr. Rajesh Bomjan and Egor Terentyev from Russia who already has a number of competitions to their credit.
“I would like to see more and more of Sikkimese youths to take up Aero Sports as a profession so that we could give birth to more professionals in days to come” adds Arjun.
Mr. Arjun has already participated in Pre World Cup Paragliding Competition 2013 which was held at Birbillig, Himachal Pradesh. He is the lone Sikkimese pilot who has been participating continuously in this kind of event over the years. Currently he is associated with Sikkim Paragliding Adventure Sports Co-operative Society.
