March 15: At a time when the call for an autonomous Gorkhaland State is dying down, Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) has pitted Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Surinder Singh (SS) Ahluwaliya, as a candidate to the Lok Sabha election.
GJM, that has been demanding for a separate Gorkhaland State for years, has fielded BJP leader SS Ahluwaliya as a candidate for the Lok Sabha election to be held on April 17.

SS Ahluwaliya has become Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha four times already.
With the support of Nepali migrants, SS Ahluwaliya is likely to turn the table in his favor in the upcoming general election.
Of the total 1,415,000 voters in Darjeeling, Nepali migrants hold majority. There are 1,729 polling centers.
62-year-old Ahluwaliya, whose origin is traced to Siyalkot of Pakistan, migrated to New Delhi and then to Asansol of Bardhaman district of West Bengal, after Pakistan broke away from India.
Earlier, Gorkhaland had elected Jaswant Singh to the Lok Sabha, which is held in every five years.
