VIPs,
cine stars, footballers and heavyweight leaders are all set to tour
North Bengal to campaign for their respective poll candidates for the
forthcoming Lok Sabha election.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi is likely to visit North Bengal on the first week of April. Party sources said Gandhi is currently in South Bengal and talks are on for her Siliguri visit. She will campaign for Congress candidate from Darjeeling, Sujoy Ghatak.
Meantime, Gujarat chief minister and BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is also slated to be in Siliguri on April 11. He will address a gathering at the Baghajatin Park and will campaign for Darjeeling BJP candidate SS Ahluwalia.
To promote the candidature of TMC candidate Bhaichung Bhutia, party president and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will visit North Bengal for the second time within a fortnight. She will address a gathering in Siliguri and Chopra on April 11. Minister for state of railways Adhir Chaudhery will also campaign for Bhaichung. Mamata has reportedly also instructed filmstar Mithun Chakraborty and Bengali actor Deepak Adhikari alias Dev to campaign for Bhaichung. The duo will arrive in Siliguri soon, informed NBDD minister Gautam Deb.
For CPM candidate Saman Pathak, politburo member Sitaram Yechurey will arrive in Siliguri on the first week of April and will address a public meeting in Darjeeling. CPM veteran Suryakanta Mishra will also address the public at the Baghajatin Park, while another CPM veteran, Binda Karat, is also likely to visit town for campaigning. (EOIC)
