Mukesh Sharma,Kalimpong: In a major boost to Independent Candidate Dr.Mahendra P Lama the Largest farmers body of Darjeeling Hills, Kalimpong Krishak Kalyan Sangathan (KKKS) has extended full support to independent candidate Dr. Mahendra P.Lama that could also prove to be a factor for Bhaichung to fare badly in his debut election. Kalimpong Krishak Kalyan Sangathan a registered federal organization operating in all of Darjeeling hills and has about 330 Farmers Club about 100 SHG and 100 Joint liability group and many more under its head. Today the Sangathan Celebrated its 7th Foundation Day and in the evening in a press conference with Dr Lama who arrived kalimpong after attending the meeting of DDUDF at Darjeeling announced its support to Lama.
“We have been speaking about a able candidate who can carry our problem in the parliament. At present situation and taking into consideration all the factors, Dr. Lama is the right person who is right candidate in a right time.After all we are looking for a person who would be taking forward our demand for a separate state at the centre and at the right place,” Bishnu Chettri, the Secretary of the organization told a news conference here on Monday. Chhetri said that Farmers have the political rights too but the two time separate state agitation which have failed miserably is due to leadership. At a time when the condition of Farmers of rest of India is gaining and improving , The Farmers of Darjeeling is deteriorating. A small wound have now become Dangerous added chettri. When asked what amount of vote is expected from the Sangathan Chettri Replied 70-80 Thousand.
Dr. Lama, an economist and former vice Chancellor of Sikkim University has been campaigning since the past couple of months under the banner Darjeeling-Dooars Development Forum. Lama repeatedly has been stressing on taking the Gorkhaland issue at the right place and has promised to do the same after being elected as the MP from Darjeeling. The Sangathan Secretary said , “Gorkhaland is a possible
demand and we need to unite for it. Most of the central party leadership has been playing with the emotions of the hill parties. We already saw what happened by relying on National leaders. Lama is a perfect candidate in context to the Lok Sabha polls.
Lama to expressed happiness and thanked Sangathan for their support.He said it will make a huge difference. We wanted to go to remote places and village but could not due to lack of time but the support of KKS has overcome the problem as it works on ground added Lama.
Already many NGO and Bhagop has already Supported Lama
Meanwhile the teachers body of GJMM has announced its Support to GJM backed BJP candidate S.S Ahluwaliya after a meeting today in Kalimpong.
