Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling
unfurled the national tricolor Friday at the Palzor Stadium to celebrate the 68th Independence Day of India.
High-level officials of the state
government, along with students and people from all walks of life
witnessed a grand parade exhibition to mark the significant day. The
audience was treated to some excellent display of drills by the Army and
Sikkim police, martial art demonstrations by Sikkim police personnel
and cultural programmes by students.
The chief minister also presented police
medals, state meritorious service awards, commendation certificates and
awards to Class X and XII board examination toppers. The awards went to
Sikkim Police Mahila Platoon for overall best platoon,Sir Tashi Namgyal
Senior Secondary School for Best NCC boys platoon and Tadong Senior
Secondary School for Best NCC girls platoon.
In his address, Chamling extended warm
greetings to the people of Sikkim and also paid rich tributes to freedom
fighters of the country. He used the occasion to caution the general
public on the propaganda of misinformation being engineered by certain
sections of vested interest groups to disrupt the sincere efforts of his
government. Urging people to stay clear of such subterfuge, Chamling
called upon the Sikkimese people to remain fully responsible of their
actions and to work collectively for the welfare of the state. (IPR)
Chamling awards board examination toppers with Rs1 lakh cash prize
Class X and XII board examination
toppers from government schools of Sikkim were Friday awarded a cash
prize of Rs1 lakh and certificates by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on
the occasion of the 68th Independence Day celebration at Palzor Stadium
in Gangtok.
The chief minister informed the policies
and programmes initiated by the state government in the education
sector and noted the awards is among the initiatives to encourage
students to focus more on their academic performance.
Chamling further said society makes an
impact on the minds of the people, especially the youth, which he termed
as Internal Generation Mobility. The thinking capacity of the people
becomes limited to the society where they are born and brought up in
making them incapable of thinking beyond. The chief minister urged the
students to widen their horizon of learning and to think beyond the
society in which they live. (IPR)
