GNLF condemned Gurung’s claim that centre agreed to examine Gorkhaland demand

GNLF condemned Gurung’s claim that centre agreed to examine Gorkhaland demandThe Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) has condemned the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) chief Bimal Gurung’s claim that the central government has agreed to form a committee to examine the Gorkhaland demand. GNLF leaders termed it Mr Gurung’s “political move to hoodwink the Darjeeling people.”
Talking to reporters, GNLF Kurseong branch unit spokesperson Daya Dewan said his party has condemned such a claim.
He said that his party will never recognize Mr Gurung’s “personal” statement.
“We don’t know what they talked with the home minister in Delhi. Earlier too, Bimal Gurung had made several announcements and statements on Gorkhaland. If the home minister has indeed taken such a decision, the central government must make an official and written announcement on the matter,” Mr Dewan said.
“The fact is that the GJMM made such a claim after union ministers Rajnath Singh and Rajiv Pratap Rudi told the Hill party delegation that a Bill on Gorkhaland will not be tabled during the winter session of Parliament,” he added.
He, however, said that the GNLF leadership will support any such announcement made officially by the central government.
According to him, the GJMM is gearing up for public meetings in Darjeeling and it’s adjoining areas, “but they must understand that such rallies are needed to be held in Delhi during the ongoing winter session of parliament.”
Before he returned to Darjeeling after political meetings in New Delhi, Mr Gurung had recently said that the home minister had agreed to form the Gorkhaland examining committee. He had also said that the GJMM had postponed its planned Delhi protests following request from the home minister.(sns)
