Jyotika Khati, the 24-year-old resident of Darjeeling who was being treated for cancer at the Tata Cancer Foundation in Mumbai, passed away this morning at 11:30am. Hospital sources said Jyotika suffered two heart attacks on Monday and went into coma from which she never woke up. A lot of support came Jyotika’s way from Darjeeling residents, but the most significant ones were from cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s YouWeCan foundation and marathon team Run with Roshni.
“I have no words to say. Sad and shocked. I was not allowed to meet Jyotika when I last went to the hospital. I was hoping she would recover," said Team Run with Roshni founder Roshni Rai.
Bishal Lama of the Gorkha Youths of Mumbai was equally distraught. He was in the hospital till 3am this morning. “We are saddened by the loss of our ‘cheli’. Jyotika has left behind Evna (her 4-year-old daughter) and we must take care of her. I appeal to everyone to pray for the bereaved family.” (HS)
