As part of the bicentenary celebrations to mark St John Bosco’s birth, Don Bosco School, Siliguri, organised an inter-school seminar on 'The system of education followed by your own school' here on Saturday.
Six schools from Siliguri—Don Bosco School, Nirmala Convent, Auxilium Convent, St Joseph's, Sacred Heart, and Good Shepherd— and two from Darjeeling—St Joseph's School and Goethals Memorial, Kurseong, participated in the seminar/contest, where five members of each school presented the system of education followed by their schools with the help of Powerpoint presentations on screen. Don Bosco School, Siliguri, took away the first prize, while the first and second runners up were Good Shepherd School, Bagdogra, and Auxilium Convent School, Siliguri.
Two students—Shivam Singhal of Don Bosco School and Indrani Saha of St Joseph's School, Matigara—were chosen the best speakers by a panel of three judges—KK Choudhary, the Senior Vice-President (Operations) of The Statesman newspaper; Father CJ George, and Father Manoj Matthew. The entire event was moderated by Don Bosco, Siliguri, alumnus, Sandeep Agarwal. Speaking on the occasion, Choudhary, also the chief guest of the event, urged the students packed in the Don Bosco School auditorium to keep themselves updated with the new developments, especially in the science and technology sector. "Young people are the future of the country. You all can make the country go forward. The Statesman will always help the students with all its capabilities," Choudhary said.
Father VT Jose, the principal of Don Bosco School, Siliguri, said: "This (seminar) is an apt opportunity to learn more from all the institutions taking part in the event today."(sns)
