MLA Shankar Malakar today unveiled a unique statue of eminent Nepali
poet Adikavi Bhanu Bhakta Acharya in Milan More, siliguri on the occasion of
Nepali Bhasha Diwas. He said he has a lot of respect for Nepali culture
and literature and fully supports their development. Malakar also
announced a grant from the MLA fund for the development of the area even
as he appreciated the Milan More Bhanu Jayanti Samaroah Samiti for its
continuous endeavour at highlighting the life and works of Bhanu Bhakta
Acharya, whose contributions are priceless for the Nepali community.
Litterateur Nar Bahadur Dahal, who presided over the event, spoke on the
life of Bhanu Bhakta and urged the gathering to follow the positive
path in life that the bard has shown through his poetry. The land for
the statue was donated by Jiwan Gautam and Ratna Chapagain. Other
speakers included Gyanendra Khatiwada, Lok Nath Chapagain, P Arjun,
Tulsi Bhattarai and Tirtharaj Neopane.
After the unveiling of the statue Nepali Bhasha Diwas was observed where large numbers of students took part followed by the cultural function till evening. (EOIC)
