Gorkhaland Territorial Administration delegation led by chief executive
Bimal Gurung on Wednesday met Uma Bharati, Union minister for water
resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation in New Delhi, and
placed the demand for a separate river management board for planning and
integrated implementation of measures for flood management for the hill
body. According to a press release by the GTA from the national
capital, the minister has
asked the delegation to submit
immediately a detailed survey report on habitation, conditions of
rivers, bridges, embankments, irrigation system, ongoing power projects
and cleanliness of rivers in the GTA area so that funds could be
released. According to Binoy Tamang, a GTA executive member who issued
the press release, Bharati has also assured the delegation that a
separate river management board will soon be formed for the GTA. (EOIC)
