Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address two election rallies for the BJP in north Bengal - one at Birpara in Alipurduar district and the other at Gossainpur near here - on April 7.
This is the second time that the Prime Minister will be in Bengal for poll campaign. On March 27, he had spoken at a public meeting in Kharagpur.
Biswapriya Roychoudhury, the state general secretary of the BJP, today visited a ground at Gossainpur in Naxalbari block, 10 km from here, where Modi is slated to address a gathering on Thursday.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit north Bengal on Thursday. He will first address a public meeting at 12 noon in Birpara for BJP candidates in Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts. From there, he will reach Gossainpur and will speak at another meeting in support of the candidates in Darjeeling district around 4pm," Roychoudhury said.
The BJP leaders said both the meetings would have an impact on the poll results.
"He had held a similar public meeting ahead of the 2014 Parliament polls in Matigara (on the outskirts of Siliguri). His speech worked as we managed to secure the Darjeeling Parliament seat," the state general secretary of BJP said.
"Now that he is coming to the region again, we are confident that his speech will have a huge impact on voters and they will support us, rejecting both Trinamul and the Left-Congress alliance," Roychoudhury added.(TT)
