Around
200 families residing at Upper Bagdogra under Naxalbari block are
facing acute drinking water crisis as the water level has rapidly gone
down due to inadequate rainfall.
People residing at Danra Gaon which is around 10 feet high from Lower Bagdogra are mostly hit hard by the water crisis as the wells are mostly dried and the water supplied from PHE are presently stopped due to the construction of Asian Highway II.
PHE sources from Bagdogra said that the water connection to the Danra Gargaon, and some parts of upper Bagdogra has been disconnected due to the deep excavation by Asian Highway II authorities.
Anu Bista resident of Danra Gaon said, "Since Tuesday the motor fixed to well could not pump the water as the water level has gone down. We are facing problems as it becomes difficult to carry water for household purposes from long distances."
Ratan Bomzon fromer panchayat member of Danra Gaon said, "There are 70 wells and 10 tube-wells but since few days most of the wells are dried and others have very little water. The water level has gone down as the area is little high latitude compared to the other areas of Bagdogra."
Most of the people have started drinking mineral waters and travelling nearby riverlutes for washing clothes and taking bath. (EOI)
