The WBJEE engineering results will be declared by 5 June as scheduled, even though the date of the WBJEE medical examination is yet to be finalised, following the Central Ordinance, which put on hold the NEET exam for admission to state medical colleges for a year.
Senior officials of the WBJEE on Monday said no change has been made in the schedule for declaration of the results of the WBJEE engineering. Around 2,900 medical seats in West Bengal will be filled up through state medical entrance examinations. Though NEET would be implemented for the private medical colleges across the state and the Central government owned institutions this year, the state government medical colleges have been kept out of the NEET ambit this year. West Bengal will conduct its own medical joint entrance examination for filling up 15 per cent of AIMPT seats, 15,000 MBBS seats in private medical colleges, 7,000 in dental colleges and 2,000 seats in various Centre controlled institutions.
Several state governments including West Bengal had urged the Supreme Court as well as the Central government not to implement NEET as the medical aspirants from the states would not get enough time to prepare for the examination. After sensing the importance of the matter, the Centre decided to bring an ordinance so that the states can conduct their own entrance examinations for admission to the undergraduate medical seats in the state-run colleges this year.(sns)
