The Binay Tamang camp of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has criticised
Bimal Gurung for his alleged failure to utter a word of sympathy for the
victims of Bijanbari road accident.
An SUV had skidded off a
Bijanbari road and plunged 130ft down into the Little Rangit river on
Friday. One student, Renuka Chhetri, 18, died and 12 others were
injured.
Sandip Chhetri, the spokesman for the Darjeeling
subdivisional committee of the Morcha, said: “Gurung sends message on
every little thing but he has not uttered a word of sympathy for the
Bijanbari victims. This is only because everything is about politics for
him. His sympathy for the Gorkhaland martyrs is also to gain political
sympathy.”
“It is our misfortune that we have such an
opportunistic person in our midst. He used martyr Pramila Sharma to
chase Subash Ghisingh out of the Darjeeling hills, then used martyrs
Nita Khawash, Bimala Rai and Vicky Lama to accept the GTA,” alleged
Chhetri.
“Martyr Mangal Singh Rajput was used to return to the GTA
in 2013 and again to regain his ground, he made 11 people martyrs in
2017.”
Roshan Giri, the leader of the Gurung camp, in a message in
the social media on Sunday, criticised a purported plan of Binay
Tamang’s group to hold a rally in Delhi.
“We are hearing that they
want to bring 22,500 people to Delhi. We welcome the move but it should
be for the martyrs. The show of strength should be to demand
Gorkhaland,” said the statement issued in the name of Anmol Thapa, who
is aligned with Gurung.
