(From Voice of Sikkim)14 Feb, Gangtok: Citizens from various walks of life today participated in a candlelight  rally in Gangtok to condemn the Sipchu Incident which took place on 08 Feb where three Gorkhaland supporters were shot dead by the West Bengal police personnel. The rally also paid rich tribute to deceased persons and expressed its belief that their sacrifice will not go in vain.
Academiecian Prof Mahindra P lama, Political leader of Sikkim including Nar Bahadur Bhandari , Padam Sharma and Biraj Adhikari along with several other people expressed their sadness over the incident that took place at Sipchu and sprouted a blame over the West Bengal government.
“The killing of three peaceful demonstrators is very unfortunate and should not be repeated. peaceful effort should continue to resolve the century old Gorkhaland aspiration of the people”, they said in their short speeches before the candlelight rally proceeding from Taxi parking spot near Police headquarter here at capital.
Bhandari said that Centre should not remain mute spectator while the Bengal Governemnt continues to provoke the peaceful agitation for Gorkhaland  by the people of Darjeeling and Dooars. He said that the centre should heed to probe into the census of people who have been killed ever since Gorkhaland agitation broke out in 1980′s, he said.
Adhikari reiterated the support of Sikkimese people towards the Gorkhaland cause and warned the Centre and Bengal Government that the people here could join the agitation if suppression and brutality on Darjeeling people continues.
Prof Lama said that the Sipchu incident is deeply unfortunate. The aspirations of the Darjeeling people must be respected and we express our sincere tributes to those three women who were killed in Sipchu firing incident, he said. The rally was organised by Sikkim Nagarik Samaj which concluded at Zero Point.
