All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU) condoles death of founder ULFA leader

Guwahati, Dec 20 (IBNS) The All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU) on Tuesday condoled the death of United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA)’s ideologue and the outfit’s political adviser Bhimkanta Buragohain (86) alias Mama who passed away on Monday because of a massive cardiac arrest at his residence in upper Assam. 

In a media release, Dil Bahadur Limboo AAGSU’s advisor said, "ULFA lost its father, we lost an intellect guide, pathfinder and torchbearer. Assam lost an intellectual figure of the state."

"Late Bhimkanta Buragohain was a revolutionary intellect of Assam who guided and grouped youths of Assam to oppose suppression in a colonial rule. His political ideology has been an ideal one for regionalism spirited population of Assam. We the AAGSU deeply condoles the sudden demise of a legendry intellectual of Assam."

Recalling his personal call on the political ideologue of the ULFA Limboo said, "Mama was farsighted wellversed leader besides he honed several skills that amused all his revolutionary friends. I being an advisor of democratic community organistion was personally am touched at his huge heartedness and admire to idolize his leadership skills. May his departed soul rest in peace in heaven."

Nanda Kirati Dewan, Information and Publicity Secy AAGSU was quoted as saying in Guwahti, "AAGSU deeply condoles the death of a veteran revolutionary figure of the state who had dreamt of a ‘haanghaat bihin bor axom’ wherein the indigenous Gorkhas surfaced as constituent ethnic community of Assam. Late Borgohain will always be remembered in the history of Assam for being a good ideologue and guide to the spirited youths. We adore his leadership skills so we call it an irreparable loss to the state’s intellect society."

Born in Kakopather in Tinsukia district of upper Assam, he was one of the founder leaders of the outfit. Late Buragohain was arrested by Bhutanese Royal Army during the Operation All Clear in December 2003 and was handed over to the Indian Army in January 2004.

He was released from jail after seven years on 5 December, 2010. He is one of the main leaders of the ULFA. He had also supported the peace talks with the Government and it was in his initiative that the top ULFA leaders had come for talk with the government.

A condolence message on behalf of the Gorkha community, students and youths of Assam was sent to the ULFA leaders through Sr. ULFA leader Mrinal Hazarika by AAGSU’s publicity secretary Nanda Kirati Dewan.
