Stringent rules for traffic law breakers in Kalimpong

In order to keep a check on the traffic rule breakers and rash drivers, the Kalimpong Traffic Department launched campaigns at Tunibotey and 9 Mile, today. 

During the campaign, those individuals who had modified their motorbikes against the laws and the license of other vehicles were checked. Under the same, 45 such bikers were penalized. The department also filed 25 cases against heavy load vehicles. It may be mentioned that a month ago, the department had set rules that between 7:30-9 in the morning (school opening hours) and 2-4 in the afternoon (school closing hours) the heavy load vehicles cannot ferry through the road. However, many vehicles were seen breaking the rule, which now have cases registered against them. Apart from these, the department is also strict over those vehicles and drivers who make double lines while parking on the main road.The campaign has been launched under the leadership of Traffic OC, Praveen Gurung, after many complaints were received from the public about traffic hassles and accidents. Gurung has urged the NGOs, Municipality, other departments and the general public to cooperate with them as it is of much importance to solve the traffic issues of the town.He further informed that there are bike parking facilities near the Traffic office along with 5 other places. Apart from these allocated places, if the bikes are found parked at other places then cases will be registered, he cautioned. The department keeping in mind the increasing numbers of two wheelers in the town is also thinking on allocating the road linking to Town Hall as a parking place. The OC also asked those who charge parking fees not to allow the four wheelers to park in the two wheelers’ parking areas. If they do so, then case will also be registered against them, he said.Lastly, Gurung has appealed all the drivers to keep a copy of their driving license and other important vehicle document along with them while driving.
