SILIGURI, 11 APRIL: Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad state
president Birsa Tirkey is scheduled to campaign against the Jharkhand
Mukti Morcha in the Terai-Dooars region at a time when the Gorkha Jan
Mukti Morcha (GJMM) has tied up with the JMM to contest the upcoming
rural polls in the Dooars.
Mr Tirkey would visit two Adivasi-dominated tea plantations at Sukna
and
at Naxalbari in Darjeeling district tomorrow on the issue of fallow
lands, which were allegedly transferred to others for commercial
purposes.
Mr Tirkey would visit the Dooars and hold a series of
meetings with Adivasi villagers in different tea belts from Saturday to
Tuesday to strengthen the base of his outfit.
“We would start
campaigning against the JMM branding it as an ‘enemy party’ for Adivasi
people in the Terai-Dooars. Our main object is to isolate the GJMM-JMM
in the Dooars on the issue of land. We have
planned to send a
message to the people that JMM has made a political understanding with
the GJMM, which demanded additional land from the Terai-Dooars region
for the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA),” Mr Tirkey said.
“At
present we are free from mental anxiety and enough time to put the
organisation in order because the fate of the rural polls is still
uncertain because the matter is sub-judice,” he added.
