Even as the GTA boasts of executing a series of developmental activities across the hills, the public toilet in Kurseong Sub Divisional office tells a different tale.
Visitors to the office have been facing problems since the past several months due to lack of a proper urinal facility. The problem started after the sole public toilet in the SDO office premises was closed down. Visitors who have to wait long hours to get their job done by the officials there have no other option but to relieve themselves right before the eyes of onlookers.
According to Kurseong SDO RK Jha, “The toilet has been closed as it lies in the middle of the main pathway connecting several important offices. If it is opened to the public, the stench becomes too offensive to bear for both employees and visitors. Furthermore, scarcity of water is another cause for closing the urinal. However, we have already informed Kurseong Municipality for adequate water supplies and once this is made available, we will open the toilet for use.”
Jha dismissed talks of visitors facing problems and said the toilet inside the Treasury office has been opened for public use.
According to an employee, there are separate urinals for both sexes in the treasury office, but while the male toilet remains open always, the female one is kept locked and opened if someone wishes to use it.
However, no signs are in place to direct visitors to the toilets inside the Treasury office, adding another problem to the muddle.(EOI)
