The
state bureau office of North East Television, the first private
satellite channel to go live from the northeast from 2003, was
inaugurated today in Gangtok. Sikkim has been a major source of news
content for the channel and its six sister networks since the
association started in 2009.
NETV state bureau in-charge Chewan K Dahal said, “Now, as part of our greater attention to Sikkim, its activities, events and issues, an office has been set up. Besides, a studio will come up to broadcast live events, panel discussions and news bulletins, especially in Nepali, because NETV is the only Indian satellite TV channel with a dedicated Nepali news bulletin for Indian Nepalis.
Plans to employ young talented, trained youths in various journalistic and technical positions are also on the pipeline.” He added, “We are available on all six DTH platforms and major cable TV operators across the Northeast and the rest of India as well as in Fiji, Mauritius and the Maldives where many Indians reside.” (EOIC)
