Speaking on the occasion, branch secretary Paudyall opined only the communists can accomplish the nationality movement. He also criticized the ruling party in the hills saying, “Raising slogans of national identity and pushing the public towards development is total betrayal. Various political parties came up in the hills with the Gorkhaland slogan, but owing to their misuse of public emotion, Gorkha community faced defeats on every occasion.”
Giving reasons for splitting up from CPIM and forming a separate party 18 years ago Paudyal stated, “Only the communists can successfully solve the problem of national identity. However since the then CPIM state committee oppressed the right to self determination, we made our choice to form CPRM.” He said for the achievement of statehood it is essential to have support from the other nationalities and communities in the country. “CPRM is working at a national level as a member of Left Coordination Committee” noted Paudyall highlighting the activities of the party at higher level.
Addressing the foundation day function Kalimpong branch committee spokesperson Sudan Pradhan said, “Gorkhaland is interconnected with lives, not with livelihood. Gorkhaland will be formed one day for sure.” He added that a non-compromising leadership and movement is required for gaining statehood and claimed the CPRM is sincerely taking the demand ahead.
