KURSEONG,19 Dec 2013: Before leaving for Kolkata accompanying Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung, the GJM study forum leader and Darjeeling MLA Trilok Dewan said the GJM leadership wants the Tamang Development Board formed under the GTA. He added the GJM has no objection on the formation of different development boards for indigenous communities. He said the leadership wants it to be formed under the GTA and not the state government. Dewan said the GJM leadership will be demanding the same during its scheduled meeting in Kolkata on Friday with the CM Mamta Bannerjee.
However, the Tamang Youth Association has disagreed with the formation of Tamang Development Board under Gorkha Teritorial Administration. President of Tamang Youth Association Bishnu Golay said the Tamang fraternity does not desire the board to be formed under the GTA. Instead the board should be formed under the state government. The Tamang leaders have warned of possible opposition to the decision of forming the board under the GTA.
Golay said, “The GTA has its own limitations and jurisdiction. We do not want to be confined within the GTA.” He asserted, “For the preservation and all round development of our community the board must be formed under the state government and not under GTA.” The Tamang fraternity has also welcomed CM Mamta Bannerjee on January 21 in Mirik where they will press for their demand. The Tamang fraternity aims at showcasing their distinct culture and tradition before the CM and appeal for its preservation during her visit. (EOIC)
