Fire destroyed the historic Ambootia Tea Estate factory in kurseong last night, which was built in 1920.
The factory had been modernized and was brought up to the international
standard in 2012.
Sadly over 90,000 Kgs of picked leaf and over 9000 kgs of prepared tea has also been burnt down.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and till now, they have been unable to ascertain if the fire was due to short-circuit or if it was a deliberate case of arson.
Even though two fire trucks arrived from Kurseong, one of the fire trucks could not even function properly. This is not the first time that fire services in the hills have been caught napping.
