The Kirati Khambu Rai rights movement has announce Kolkata base program to press its demand for the Scheduled Tribe status. The programmes, initiated by the Rai Rights Movement will start dharnas in Kolkata in the coming days.
The decision came after the core committee meeting of KRM sat under the president of A K Rai,president of KRM
Secretary of the Movement Sandip Kulung said movement said the Kirati Khambu Rais meet all the criteria needed for any community to acquire the ST status. The Rais have their own culture and traditions harking back to hoary past, he added.
He said that the movement has staged Dharna at Jantar Mantar and met the central leader and explained them our demand . Now its the time of the state who have who have forwarded the demand of 10 community of hills but we are expecting more help from them said Kulung.
“We are tribal and our population is around 4 lakh in the Hills, yet we are still lagging behind in every index of development. It is now time for us to demand our rights,” Manoj Rai spokesperson of the Rights Movement,
“The Rais are worshippers of sun, air, water and earth with our own unique tradition and culture. We fulfil all the criteria required to secure the tribal status" He appeal all to participate in the program.
