AIDS awareness programme at Kalimpong

An awareness programme on AIDS on the occasion of the World AIDS day was today organized at Kalimpong by different organizations, associations and the ICTC hospital. A rally at the outset kick-started from the Damber Chowk with students holding placards and shouting slogans that encircled the town and ended at the Town Hall for the programme.Former nurse, Sangeeta Rai, addressing the gathering said that the disease has been mostly associated with the young ones and they have to be cautious. There has to be no discrimination to those who are HIV positive or with AIDS. At present there are a total of 126 AIDS patients in Kalimpong, in which 68 are males and 58 are females and 10 are children she informed. The continues awareness programmes on the same hand has resulted brake on the speedy growth and transfer of the disease. There has been free test of the disease going on at the ICTC hospital she said. The day had the presence of the school students.
