Journalist Manoj Rai has been awarded the Godfrey Philips National Bravery Award 2012. He received the recognition during a special function held at Taj Hotel Kolkata. West Bengal Power Minister Manish Gupta handed over the award to Rai. He received a gold medal, eulogy and cash prize of Rupees Fifty thousand. Rai during the 18th September earthquake in 2011 had done social service along with fulfilling his duties as a journalist. The noble deed of his made him eligible for this set of award. He helped 395 earthquake victim families. Rai after receiving the award expressed happiness said that by seeing the aftermath of the earthquake he was in tears. I helped them as much I could, he added and assured that he will continue serving the society in the future.Total eleven such individuals received the said award.
