Large cardamom auction records sale of 12,000 Kgs

The year’s first large cardamom auction recorded a sale of 12,000 kilos with Rs. 30,000 for 40 kgs (per mann). Different large cardamom farmers from various areas such as Rimbik, Sri Khola, Kafer, Sakyong, Maipatey, etc. gathered at the auction held at the Kalimpong Krishak Kalyan Sangathan (KKKS) office today. Spices Board Marketing Board’s Joint Director, CS Ghatani, Development Borad’s Joint Director, Ramalingam and KKKS General Secretary, Vishnu Chettri were also present.Before the farmers did not used to get proper amounts for their produce, but after the KKKS started with the auction the farmers are getting profitable amount. It has been informed that the auctions for oranges, ginger, black pepper and other produce will also be conducted in the future. At present KKKS is working towards encouraging organic farming.
