MLA’s remarks on Gorkha, Naga regiments spark protest

SHIMLA/DHARAMSHALA: Hundreds of Gorkhas on Monday protested against a local BJP MLA, who on last Thursday had told the Himachal Vidhan Sabha that Gorkha and Naga regiments should be deployed in the state to take care of the growing monkey and pig menace.

The community members belonging to Bhartiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP) took to the streets of Dharamshala raising slogans against BJP legislator Ravinder Singh Ravi. The protesters also burnt the effigy of the legislator and demanded an apology from him.

BGP member Bhupinder Singh Gurung said that the MLA's remarks have hurt the feelings of the entire Gorkha community. The agitated Gorkha community members also submitted a memorandum to Kangra deputy commissioner demanding action. Meanwhile, the MLA on Monday requested assembly Speaker B B Butail to expunge his remarks from the proceedings of the assembly.
