Renowned writer and senior Sikkim based journalist Samiran Chettri will
be conferred with Kanchendzonga Kalam Puruskar 2015 on the eve of 13th
Foundation Day of Press Club of Sikkim on July 17. The decision to
present the award to Chettri was unanimously decided at a meeting called
by the PCS on Thursday. Chettri started journalism almost three decades
ago from Suchana Patra Niwaydan in 1983 and has worked at various
Nepali newspapers including Aabha Dainik, Himalchuli, Darjeeling Times,
Himali Bela and Ghilka among others. He was conferred the Sahitya
Academy Puruskar in 2009. Similarly, the PCS has decided to felicitate
Himali Bela editor Mala Rana Patro for her contribution in the field of
journalism and the development of media in the state. The Lagansheel
Yuva Patrakar Puruskar 2015 has been decided to be conferred to Hamro
Prajasakti assistant editor Parshuram Dhakal. The meeting today was
conducted under the chairmanship of Agriculture Minister Som Nath
